Arrival Bergen

Bergen city – beautiful and rich in cultural history and exciting architecture.

Norways next largest city on the western coast welcomes you. Bergen has a lot to offer and you are accomodated in the city center with short distances to all attractions. The city is surrounded by seven mountains and we recommend extra nights for hiking or cycling. But Bergen can also be explored at the end of your tour, and the journey can continue to the Sognefjord the same afternoon. The coastal boat from Bergen to Sognefjord have two departures pr day. In the morning and in the afternoon.

Bergen – boat trip to the Sognefjord

The coastal boat takes you from Bergen and into the beautiful Sognefjord.

Traveling from Bergen with the coastal boat to Balestrand. You disembark the boat just outside one of Norway’s most famous historic wooden hotels. Here came the artists, photographers, writers and prominent people from the 18th century. They were inspired by the beautiful landscapes with the changing light and created their works of art. 

Hiking Raudmelen 8 km

The hike starts from your hotel. From the top of Raudmelen, 972 masl, you have a fantastic view of Balestrand and the majestic Sognefjord. Enjoy a picnic with fantastic views at the top.  Several options for shorter hikes in case of bad weather or other.

Cycling to Hafslo 44 km

The roads are charmingly narrow and not very busy.

Moving further into the fjord and you can cycle or take the coastal boat one stop. You can visit the regional center in Sogn and will experience the special fjord path. The boutique hotel you stay in the next two days has character and stunning views. You will be served tasty local food from their own garden – around a big table.

Hiking Molden 8 km

With its 1116 masl, Molden is described as the finest viewpoint along Sognefjord with panoramic views of the fjord arms and the high mountains in the moutain range Jotunheimen. Your packed lunch can be enjoyed in the stone hut on the top plateau with this fantastic view, in all directions.

Other hiking options from the hotel if conditions require – you can also choose a cycling adventure this day.

Cycling Skjolden 38 km

Sit back and enjoy the view in Skjolden.

Enjoy idyllic Solvorn before taking the ferry to Urnes. Visit the famous and distinctive stave church at the top of the hill. In the refurnished barn just below the masterpiece you can enjoy a waffle with a view and a local raspberry juice. At the spectacular waterfall you will find a nice place for today’s lunch by the fjord. The small cafe in the special historic building is probably open. Pick up in Skjolden or Luster at the agreed time.

Hiking to the glacier Nigardsbreen

The journey up through the wild and narrow Jostedalen is an attraction in itself. Jostedalsbreen is the largest glacier on the European mainland and the walk up to the spectacular Nigardsbreen takes approximately 1 hour. The National Park Center for Breheimen and Jostedalsbreen with cafeteria, souvenir shop, information center and museum can be visited before or after your walk to the glacier front.

A walk on the glacier itself with necessary glacier equipment must be booked in advance. Kayak and rafting is also available activities in Jostedalen.

The glacier bus departs right by your hotel between the 20th of June and the 20th of August. Outside this periode you need a transfer with supplement 1200 NOK pr transport (up to 4 people). Bigger groups transfer price on request.

Options:

• Boattrip and walk on the Tunsbergsdal glacier, more demanding hike on a less visited glacier arm. This tour must be prebooked.
